Confessions of a Primaholic ......

Hi, my name is Teri and I am a primaholic ... I have been making and collecting primitives for as long as I can remember ... Waaaaaay before they were labeled primitives! And yes, that does date me just a bit, which is what compels me to write this post. I am a normal person with a LOVE, NO! LUST for primitives. Making, buying, selling, trading .... I have no shame, I have done it all! Yes, there have been times that I have gotten up in the middle of the night to sew, to create, to shop for more primitives! It was like I just could not get enough ... clicking buy it now in the dark ... going into old junk stores after work ... driving shamelessly with friends hoping to find stuff on the curbside ... and even a weekend binder of just sewing and sewing and more sewing ... until ... yes, I couldn't even see straight! So friends, I am here to tell you that I am in a 5 step program ... And I hope that I can accomplish all of the steps and move forward into a productive lifestyle. A lifestyle that does not have me dusting, rearranging, and making my life revolve around everything prim.

Here are my 5 steps ...

Step 1. Don't buy it or make it unless you LOVE it so much you can't live without it. ( which at this point the only thing I can't live without is breathing)

Step 2. Decluter, only keep what you absolutely can't live without.
( Again with the breathing part)

Step 3. Divide, what you have and recycle through selling and giving.
(hmmmmm, sounds good, now I just have to figure out what to do with what)

Step 4. Decorate, with a new lighter, cleaner approach.
(less dusting)

Step 5. Debunk the myth that more is more.
(hope less will be more)

Yes, folks I am going to try to declutter myself ... you are probably asking what the heck? But, when we moved from the Amish farm to this house I was completely astonished at just how much I had collected over the years. And how with getting older, may mean getting better ... I just do not want to spend the better part of my time dusting and rearranging my primitives ... so I am going to try to adapt my new house into comfy, and cozy by way of "plain and simple" primitive farmhouse style. ooooh, there is that word again! Yes! I will always love the primitive style and keep a lot of it in my new home ... And yes, there will be critiquing ... Just not as much ( I hope) a bit more "plain and simple". Not minimalist.

This post is not meant to offend anyone ... So PLEASE don't be!
This was meant as a light hearted way to poke fun at myself and my own awaking. Plus I was a little bored early this morning ...
Here are a few photos of my new plain and simple style. Enjoy!

This says it all for me ...

Plain ...

Simple ...

And of course my house is a work in progress .... but I guess we can all say that.

  6. I so agree with you Teri, declutter is what I need to do also! I need to go through winter clothes today so since they have to go to Goodwill, I be looking for other stuff to take along! Thanks for the reminder for me to do something!!

  7. Less dusting would be nice.
    True primitive is simple.
I will always prefer the combination of prim, country, antique, used, comfy and a dash of new.
I purge every spring with a garage sale followed by a trip to Goodwill for donation. Then the collecting cycle begins anew. *sigh*
I have eliminated Halloween decor and concentrated on my favorite--fall.
I eliminated Easter and just do spring.
I have pared done my Americana.
I have purged my Christmas to the bare minimum with more emphasis on winter, saving on the endless work of putting out and putting away.
It is always difficult to decide what to keep and what to let go.
Perhaps, I should have my minimalist daughter help me....Nevah!
